Uniting Church LogoStonnington Community Uniting Church Seeking New Minister

The Stonnington Community Uniting Church Congregation is seeking a new minister to fill our current Ministerial Vacancy.

Inclusivity Statement

Welcome to our Community of Faith. We seek to be a safe place for all people, regardless of race, creed, gender, cultural background or sexual orientation.

Location

Located at 57-59 Burke Rd, Malvern East, Victoria, it will be a full-time placement to start as soon as reasonably possible.

About the Congregation

The Congregation is a vibrant faith community and, although an older group, we see ourselves as being still on a spiritual journey. The church community embraces diversity (click here for our Diversity Statement) and is open to experimentation and the testing of new ideas and approaches. Over the last two decades the underpinnings of our worship have shifted towards a progressive theology. Rather than treating the New or Old Testaments as the literal truth, we seek to understand them as providing, through a rich vein of metaphor and parable, a deep understanding of Jesus’ message.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a spiritual home for a secular people where we can grow life-enhancing opportunities, extending our faith community to engage with people from all walks of life who live, study, or work in the broader East Malvern area. We also want to continue to engage with people from further afield who appreciate the progressive theology we espouse. us.

Members emphasise the continuing need for pastoral care directed at those undergoing significant life changes within our ageing congregation.

We have a strong commitment to social justice issues including refugees, inter-faith groups, and First Nations peoples.

A leader is sought who can…

A leader is sought who can communicate Jesus’ message and show its contemporary relevance. We wish to be challenged by the ideas presented during the service, to be inspired and uplifted, as well as to feel the “togetherness of community” in the company of people we trust and respect.

We are seeking a Minister who identifies with progressive and contemporary theology, someone who is open to discussion about faith and has a willingness to take on the challenge of new ways, but who also understands that there are variations of belief held within our congregation and all must feel included. We desire a leader who can stimulate us both intellectually and spiritually, who is willing to support us in the quest for social justice and concern for the environment, and who can support our efforts to reach out and integrate the congregation more widely into the surrounding community.
